One Less Thing To Pack

Our coffee maker turned in it's resignation last night... all over the counter. Rob and I immediately decided to head out for a replacement. (Those of you who think we're nuts must not know our coffee addiction). Two department stores later we decided we'd let Starbucks treat us for the next few days. It's one less thing that will break in the U-haul.

aaaand we're back

Okay, I have no idea what happened to our blog over the past two days. Great timing, considering all the nonsense going on with us. Sorry about that guys- Jessi, thanks for hooking us back up.

Updates on us: We are working on moving back up to MD. Our renters have secured their place in heaven (as far as we're concerned) by allowing us to move back into our home after having lived there for just 2 months. And between our family and our Bible study, we have been blessed with amazing people helping us afford moving all over the east coast without declaring bankruptcy. To everyone else who reads our blog, thanks so much for your moral support. Deployments suck.

Scout remains remarkably unaffected by all the news. I think it's due to a new addition to his toys that I know WE didn't buy him.... Jessi and Adam... does THIS look familiar?

There just are no words

Well, now that we've effectively moved our entire lives down here to NC, the Marines have decided to throw us yet another curve ball. (Apparently we look bored.) Rob is deploying. To Iraq. According to Captain ("swear word") and his crew of (additional swear words) he will be leaving in mid to end of October.
We now are faced with using the next few weeks NOT to spend time together, no, we're working on relocating me BACK up to Maryland so that I can return to my job, our church, friends, etc. Keep in mind that each move costs upwards of $700 and we JUST got here. We're hoping we can get our home back - even though we just got renters back in July. Yes, things are exciting.
Anyway, we could use prayers.
To those of you who enjoy hating us and visit only to leave rude comments, show some class and let this go.

Wal-Mart - the entertainment center!

We had a super fun experience at Wal-Mart yesterday... (Rob and I are learning to appreciate Wal-Mart. Even though we hate it. It's literally the only grocery store around here). I understand that it's the "One Stop Shopping" center of the universe, it's just that the "one stop shopping" is exactly the problem. It is not this super-convenient, stress free shopping experience that Wal-Mart commercials convey. It's pandemonium. Getting out of the bread aisle to move on to the cereal aisle is like changing lanes on 495 during rush hour; It ain't happening unless you cut someone off. Which happens a lot around there...And then people get emotional about whose shopping cart will go first. We don't really shop the other side as much aside from running over to pick up shampoo or toothpaste because it's always stocked with at least 15 screaming children. (Those of you who are parents, I realize sometimes there's nothing you can do- kids scream, and life continues. But dang.)
My favorite experience so far happened yesterday. Because Wal-Mart is the only grocery store around, the parking lot is ALWAYS packed. It's not unusual to see cars parked up on the grass, blocking other cars, etc. (hey, we didn't say it was a classy place) But it did strike us as odd that a '98 Chevy Tahoe felt the need to quad-park. Now, overlooking the fact that quad-parking is an asinine thing to do in the first place, and that this guy's car is the same age as my high school diploma- You really want to do that at Wal-Mart where people named "Bubba" and "Big Jim" have to park on the grass because your car is taking up four spaces?
I realllly wanted to stick around and watch the fireworks when Captain Chevy Tahoe emerged from the store, but we had freezer stuff....

Oh, Delaware!

As you may have surmised (check out THAT $5 word), this past weekend we went to Delaware for my Uncle Nick's wedding. It was at the DuPont mansion/country club which was gorgeous. Plus, whenever you get more than 4o Kukich's around, you know you're in for a good time. This was the first time since my Dad's retirement that we saw EVERYONE though and that was almost as crazy as the fact that my Grandma packs Sclivovits (spelling? Eh, you wouldn't know either way) in her purse.
*Sclivovits is a Serbian alcoholic beverage. I don't know too much about the Serbian customs...even though I am Serbian, but I know that this stuff shows up at just about every big Kukich event and everyone takes a shot of it...and it tastes like lighter fluid. Anyway, good times this weekend, it was great to see everyone! Congrats Uncle Nick and Sharon!

Road Trip

So, because 2 weeks can not go by where we don't have to drive on I-95, we're getting ready to head up to Delaware for a family wedding. You kids take care while we're gone, and remember; No Parties.

The table es finito

So, in my plight to find things to do down here in NC, I have finished staining the "hallway end table". Rob has given me a space in our new digs that I can make "As girly as I want" so obviously I've taken advantage of that :-). Here is the finished product, all stained, sanded and waxed!

...I know, you're all just thrilled. But bear with me, life is lacking in the element of surprise these days.

Back by popular demand!!!

So, I know I've been in hiatus over the past...however long it's been. But we're now settled in Jacksonville, and we will have our internet set up in our home on Tuesday. Prepare yourselves for some serious updating. In the mean time.... We went to Meg and Jason's wedding, Laura and Micah came down to NC to visit us, Rob is starting classes at CAMPBELL UNIVERSITY this fall (CU Baby!) and we just bought a new apple laptop as our "one year anniversarry". (I know that the first year is supposed to be "paper", but we figure that electronics are the "paper" of the millenium). Anyway, we're adjusting to life in the south. Right now we're at the local coffee shop, "Beans" where we are appreciating the weekly open mic night of poetry.
I have a temp job while I'm waiting for FY07 Funding to kick in with my company down here and I begin tomorrow. That should prove to be interesting, but I need to catch some sleep so that I'm not yawning through my morning of introductions. I.e. "this is where we keep the printer...this is the computer...this is the coffee...you know, all the riveting things you are told on your first day and then can't find 15 minutes later.
